SUMMER ADJOURNMENT - TABLING OF AMENDMENTS TO PUBLIC BILLS

During the Recess, amendments should be submitted by email to [email protected]. Amendments can be accepted from a Member’s Parliamentary network account, or from the network account of a member of staff who has been introduced by their Member to clerks in the Public Bill Office and has been specifically authorised to act on the Member’s behalf.

If amendments are to be eligible for selection in proceedings in the public bill committee on the National Security Bill or the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill on Tuesday 6 September, they should be tabled by 4.30 pm on Thursday 1 September.

Amendments tabled by this deadline will be available on the relevant bill pages of the Parliamentary website from the morning after the deadline.

Deadlines for eligibility for selection in any proceedings on bills in the House or Committee of the whole House in the week the House returns will be announced here when the business is known.

ELECTION OF THE CHAIR OF THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

Nominations and ballot

Nominations must be handed in to the Table Office or Public Bill Office on days when the House is sitting and at the latest by 12 noon on Tuesday 13 September. Nomination forms are available in those offices and in the Vote Office.

In accordance with the House’s decision of 16 January 2020 only members of the Conservative Party may be candidates in this election.

Each nomination shall consist of a signed statement (up to 500 words) made by the candidate declaring their willingness to stand for election, accompanied by the signatures of 15 Members elected to the House as members of the same party as the candidate. Statements may (optionally) be accompanied by signatures of up to five Members elected to the House as members of any party other than that to which the candidate belongs, or members of no party.

No Member may sign more than one such statement; if any Member does so, their signature will be invalidated for all nominations.

If there is more than one candidate, the ballot will take place between 11.00am and 2.30pm on Wednesday 14 September in the Aye division lobby.

As soon as practicable after the votes have been counted the Speaker will announce to the House the results of the ballot.
