That this House is deeply concerned at the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn the longstanding Roe v Wade decision that provided federal protection for the right for women to choose an abortion and maintain the safety and autonomy of their bodies; fears that consequent restrictions across swathes of the US will harm millions of women and that the loss of safe services will lead to many unnecessary deaths; sends solidarity and support to the majority of the US population who oppose this appalling decision; and reaffirms the right for women in the UK to access safe, legal abortion procedures.
217Injury Prevention Week 2022

That this House notes and celebrates Injury Prevention Week 2022, that is celebrated from June 27th to July 1st; further notes the dedicated work by Charities and Organisations such as The Carpenters Group and Major Trauma Group that aim to highlight the ways to consider the safety of others in their day to day lives; highlights the campaign by the Association of Personal Injury Association that outlines the topic of e-scooters and the fact that there were nearly 900 casualties from collisions, some causing major injuries and furthermore, some causing death; further highlights the responsibility on elected members to formulate appropriate legislation and measures to improve safety and help to protect road and pavement users with the result of reducing the number of accidents by road users; and congratulates the mentioned organisation servicing the UK as a whole for their commitment to raising awareness and ensuring that change is brought about.
21840th Anniversary of Northern Irish qualifying to 1982 World Cup Final

That this House notes the 40th anniversary of the qualification for the World Cup Finals by the Northern Ireland Football Quad in 1982; further notes Northern Irelands performance in Group 5 by winning the group outright and performing excellently in all of their matches; highlights their valiant attempts as Northern Ireland players eliminated Yugoslavia and beat hosts Spain 1-0 and continued to carry on with only ten players; further highlights the excellent work of Northern Ireland player Norman Whiteside who was the youngest player to partake in a World Cup match; remembers the fantastic efforts by football manager Billy Bingham who took Northern Ireland into this World Cup; and encourages young footballers throughout every region of this United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to pursue their dream and strive to represent their country at this world class top level in the years to come.

That this House recognises the inspiring work of Bwyd Bendigedig Port/ Incredible Edible Porthmadog (aka Edible Madog) in working to better connect local communities through the power of food by transforming underused public spaces into community vegetable gardens; welcomes Bwyd Bendigedig Port’s core aims of mitigating and adapting to climate change, educating in sustainable food growing methods, increasing biodiversity, and using low carbon methods to protect the environment; is pleased that Bwyd Bendigedig Port is working closely with local schools and partner organisations to inspire future generations to get involved with community gardening; welcomes the growth of Incredible Edible groups across the UK which has soared from 25 to over 100 since 2012; and wishes Bwyd Bendigedig Port the very best with its future activities.
220Freedom of North Down Borough

That this House notes the decision made by Ards and North Down Borough Council to confer its highest honour - the Freedom of the Borough - to the Irish Guards; highlights that this is only the second time the Freedom of the Borough has been awarded by this Council since 2015; further notes the exceptional contribution of the Irish Guards having proven their intense loyalty on numerous operations, including World War One and the Battle of the Somme as well as Iraq and Afghanistan; celebrates the close ties between the Irish Guards and Ards and North Down Borough Council shown in the fact that they are affectionately known as the Guards from the Ards; thanks the thousands of spectators that came out to celebrate this special day in the town of Newtownards and congratulates each and every Guard who has risked their safety to secure other people's safety; and encourages all to remember and salute the devotion, commitment and faithfulness to Her Majesties Crown epitomised by the bearskin and Scarlett uniform of the Irish Guards.

That this House congratulates Dr Daniel Huws, former Keeper of Manuscripts and Records at the National Library of Wales, in the constituency of Ceredigion, on his remarkable achievement of the completion of A Repertory of Welsh Manuscripts and Scribes c.800 – c.1800, his magnum opus and the most significant study of Welsh manuscripts for over a century, co-published by the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies and the National Library of Wales; acknowledges the continued academic and editorial assistance provided to Dr Huws by both institutions since the project’s inception as well as the support of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the Welsh Government, the Neil Ker Memorial Fund, individual donations, the subscribers to the Repertory, the Learned Society of Wales and the Association for Manuscripts and Archives in Research Collections towards the publication of the three volumes and the international conference on Welsh Manuscripts to be held in June 2022 to celebrate the Repertory; and wishes Dr Daniel Huws a very happy 90th birthday as he is awarded the Medal of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion for his scholarly contribution.

That this House condemns the production of foie gras by force-feeding ducks and geese which causes severe physical and psychological pain for the animals involved; welcomes the continued ban on production of foie gras in the UK; and calls on the Government to introduce the promised ban on the import of foie gras immediately.

That this House celebrates the 74th anniversary of the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury Dock on the 22nd June 1948; recognises that Windrush has become a key symbolic moment in the history of both the Black British contribution to Britain and the broader post-war Commonwealth migration that reshaped the modern British society of today; acknowledges that this is not just Black history but it is British history; supports the celebrations taking place across the country that recognise the immense impact that the Windrush generation has had on the UK's society and culture since 1948; is ashamed by the Windrush scandal; condemns the suffering this has caused to members of the Windrush generation and their descendants, some of whom have been wrongfully deported, lost their homes and livelihoods and have been denied access to healthcare and public services; is outraged by the delays in the Windrush Compensation Scheme which led to at least 23 people passing away before receiving compensation; notes the conclusion of a leaked Home Office report that suggests the origins of the Windrush scandal lay in 30 years of racist immigration legislation designed to reduce the UK’s non-white population; calls on the Home Office to release this report in full; notes that next year will mark the 75th anniversary of Windrush; and calls on this Government to mark the day with nationwide celebrations befitting of a day with such national importance.

That this House regrets the adverse impact the covid-19 pandemic has had on black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, including the particular impacts on health and social care workers from these communities; echoes, and urges the Prime Minister to accept, the Inquiry Chair’s recommendation that the draft terms of reference for the long-anticipated COVID-19 Inquiry be reframed to put possible inequalities at its forefront so that investigation into any unequal impacts of the pandemic runs through the whole Inquiry; recognises the work of the Federation of Ethnic Minority Healthcare Organisations (FEMHO), a group of individuals, organisations and networks in the health and care sectors who have been impacted by covid-19; notes that FEMHO are uniquely placed to provide insight on the impacts of covid-19 on black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and health and care sector workers; and further calls for FEMHO to be given Core Participant status to allow them to engage with and contribute throughout the COVID-19 Inquiry.

That this House acknowledges there is a staffing crisis in the National Health Service, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic but predating it; recognises the intense pressure on healthcare staff, who having worked incredibly hard during the pandemic now face the vast challenge of clearing the backlog of care caused by it; regrets that many are now leaving NHS employment or actively considering it; notes the years of pay freezes and below-inflation pay rises and the spread of in-work poverty in the NHS; therefore calls for a decent pay rise for NHS staff aimed at boosting recruitment and retention, particularly during the cost of living crisis; urges the Government to act sooner rather than later; and further calls for embedding the real living wage as a benchmark and a dedicated retention package focused on encouraging existing, experienced NHS staff at all levels to stay in post.

That this House is concerned that a culture of disregard for the rules has been allowed to develop within the Government; believes that when Members and Ministers do not acknowledge or apologise for making statements that are not accurate and refuse to correct the record, they endanger public confidence in the political system; calls for action to restore faith in our democracy and to strengthen the values of compassion, respect, and integrity in politics; notes that an Elected Representatives (Prohibition of Deception) Bill would make it an offence for politicians to deliberately lie; notes that polling by Compassion in Politics shows that 73 per cent of people support such a law; and encourages the Government to support a Bill so that the public can be confident that there are consequences for politicians who intentionally lie.

That this House recognises the financial pressures faced by the BBC as a result of the freeze in the level of the Licence Fee but shares the concern of the National Union of Journalists regarding the likely impact of the BBC's digital first proposals on the breadth and quality of the Corporation’s journalistic content and programming; welcomes the stated commitment to enhance investigative journalism across England, but regrets that the plans involve scrapping We are England, the successor to the award-winning Inside Out programme which was only launched last year once again putting staff at the risk of redundancy; is further concerned by the proposals to replace the BBC News Channel and BBC World News with a single service, threatening its present comprehensive sources of unfolding news and diminishing the overall breath and diversity of UK news and sport broadcasted; opposes the decision to scrap the local news and politics bulletins based in Oxford and Cambridge respectively, depriving people of relevant coverage to their own local communities; fears that the proposals will result in an overall reduction in the headcount of journalists employed, and compromise the role of the BBC in informing and educating as well as entertaining British public; and calls on BBC management to respond constructively to concerns expressed during the consultation period and think again where clear opposition is expressed.

That this House notes that Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday 25 June; celebrates the outstanding commitment of service personnel, reservists, service families, veterans and cadets to our peace and security; recognises the unique skills and expertise that the entire Armed Forces community contribute to the UK and beyond; highlights the work of the Armed Forces in supporting the Covid-19 pandemic response, from facilitating community testing to delivering vaccines; recognises the need for greater diversity within the Armed Forces; is disappointed that female personnel are still experiencing greater discrimination at work; calls on the UK Government to step up its commitment to all serving personnel by improving pay, terms and conditions; and urges the UK Government to address longstanding issues for veterans, such as barriers to accessing fair pensions and compensation for injury during service.
207Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund's 50th anniversary year

208Barrhead and District Pipe Band's success at the Highland Games

That this House congratulates Barrhead and District Pipe Band on its victory in the Grade 4 competition at the Ardrossan Highland Games; notes that the band, which was formed in 2013, only started competing in 2018 and has taken part in just six events; further notes the band has members as young as nine, with the oldest aged 67, and this victory was a particular reward for those who helped keep the band going during the Covid pandemic when many other musicians put their instruments away due to lockdown restrictions making face-to-face rehearsals impossible; and recognises that this victory was an emotional achievement for pipe major Iain Grant, who won the same competition with Neilston and District Pipe Band 27 years ago, and endorses his view of this as a great achievement given the challenges the band and its members have faced due to the pandemic.

That this House congratulates the pupils and staff of Hillview Primary School in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, on the award of the prestigious Silver Reading School accreditation by the Scottish Book Trust; notes the accreditation was made in recognition of the hard work and dedication of pupils and staff towards promoting and participating in reading during the early years of education, further notes that, having received the accreditation, the school held a picnic with books showing that the commitment to reading will continue in the future; recognises that reading in the early years of education has been shown to improve literacy and wellbeing outcomes for pupils; and wishes all the staff and pupils of Hillview Primary School continued success in promoting reading in the early years.

That this House is concerned about the significant increase in petrol and diesel prices since the start of the year; notes that rural areas often pay significantly more than urban areas for fuel; notes that people in rural areas often have no choice but to drive due to poor public transport provision; welcomes the introduction of Rural Fuel Duty Rate Relief introduced by the Liberal Democrats in government in some remote rural areas of the UK; and calls on the Government to double the Rural Duty Rate Relief to 10p and to be expanded to cover more rural areas during the current spike in fuel prices.

That this House recognises the winner of the 2022 Eurovision was Ukraine; deplores the Russian aggression that has led to a situation where Ukraine’s capacity to hold the contest has been put into question; notes that as runners up, the United Kingdom are possible hosts should Ukraine be unable to host the contest; further notes that Edinburgh is one of Kyiv’s twin cities; and calls on the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to work with the BBC to explore the potential for Edinburgh to host the 2023 contest in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
214Joan Guénault's 50 years service to Samaritans

That this House celebrates 50 years of Lancaster Samaritans and particularly commends Joan Guénault, a founder member of the branch, for her five decades of commitment to this charity; notes that in her 50 years’ service, Joan has not only taken between 8,000 and 10,000 calls but has also contributed to the smooth running and good reputation of the Lancaster branch, the north west region, and Samaritans as a whole; further congratulates Joan on receiving the Platinum Champion Award and welcomes her continued commitment to supporting others and in particular distressed callers; and commends the work of the Samaritans who are trained to actively listen to callers and support them as they themselves find a glimmer of a way forward.
